Frequently Asked Questions About Public Housing

Can you use Section 8 Voucher in Public Housing apartments?


Answer: No, they are both Government Assisted Programs, you can only occupy one program at a time.

Will I be responsible for paying the electric bill?


Yes, you will have to pay all fees and charges associated with your electric bill. MRHA VII will not be responsible.


Is Cable TV included in the rent?


No, cable TV is NOT included in the rent.


Will my vehicle(s) have to be insured?


Yes. HUD requires that all vehicles parked on the Housing Authority premises be insured.


Can married couples without children apply?


Yes


 Can I apply if I’m only 19 years of age?


Yes, but you can only be housed if you are emancipated or you have reached the age of 21 by the time your name is reached on the waiting list.

“Emancipation - Is a legal process that gives a teenager who is 16 or older legal independence from his or her parents or guardians. Emancipation can be an important legal tool for certain teenagers, but you should give it careful thought before moving ahead.”


Do I have to report all of my income?


Yes, HUD requires you to provide MRHA VII all sources of income including but not limited to: Employment Wages, Cash Contributions, SSI payments, Social Security Payments, Railroad Income, VA Benefits, Lottery Winnings, Current and back time Child Support Payments, Lawsuit Payments, Death Benefit Payments, Checking/Savings Accounts, Retirement Payments, All Assets including, Money, Land, Real Estate etc.

If I apply today, how long will I be on the waiting list?


There is no way to determine how long an applicant will remain on the waiting list as there are many variables in which is considered such as: Preferences (Working Family and Disabled), Waiting List position, Vacancy Availability, Family Bedroom Size Availability etc.
